My name is Tanya. I live in Minsk, the capital of Belarus. I live in Gerasimenko street in a large nine-storeyed house. Our flat is on the eighth floor. Our flat is not large but it is very cosy. There are two rooms in our flat. There is a living- room and a bedroom in our flat. There is a kitchen, a bathroom and a toilet there, too.

Our living-room is light and comfortable. There is only one window in it, but it’s very large. There is modern furniture in our living-room. There is a wall-unit, a TV-set, a sofa, two armchairs and a table in the room. There is a large carpet on the floor. But there is no carpet on the wall. There are some pictures on the walls. I like to watch TV in the living-room and to play or talk with my parents in the evening there.

Our kitchen is small, but it is nice. There is a cooker there, a refrigerator, a table and four chairs. We have meals in the kitchen and my mother cooks tasty things there.

Our bathroom is clean and nice. We wash hands and face, clean teeth in the bathroom. There is a bath and a sink with hot and cold water taps there.

I like to be at home, to play, to read books. There are a lot of books in our flat. I help my parents about the house and our flat is always clean and nice. I think, there is no place like home.

My flat

My name is Marina. My surname is Nesmiyan. I am 12 years old. My family and I live in Belgorod region, Borisovka district. My native village is Gruzskoe. I would like to tell about my flat because it is the best place in the world.

There are three rooms, a kitchen and a bathroom in my flat.

The living-room is very big and cosy. There are two armchairs, a sofa, a small round table, the TV and a wall unit in our living-room.

My parents’ bedroom is light and beautiful. There is a double bed, a wardrobe and a table with a mirror. My mom is a doctor and she enjoys painting the pictures.I like my mom’s pictures which are on the walls.

I have my own room. It is very bright and I like it very much. There is a soft bed, a desk with a lamp and a computer on it, a big wardrobe in my bedroom. Near the desk there is a small sofa and a bookshelf in my room where I keep my books and copybooks. I am a good singer and I like music very much, so there is a stereo and a CD-player in my room.

Our kitchen is very beautiful and convenient. It is not very big but comfortable. We have all modem conveniences in our house. We have gas, central heating, hot and cold running water. There is a fridge and a microwave oven in the kitchen. My family likes to get together there; we drink tea and talk to each other.

I adore my flat. There are many proverbs about house: “My home is my castle”, “There is no place like home”. I completely agree with these statements.

Кухня очень красивая и удобная. Она не очень большая, но комфортная. У нас есть все современные удобства: газ, центральное отопление, холодная и горячая вода. В кухне находятся холодильник и микроволновая печь. Наша семья любит собираться за столом, пить чай и общаться.

Я очень люблю свою квартиру. Существует много пословиц о доме: «Мой дом - моя крепость», «В гостях хорошо, а дома лучше». Я абсолютно согласна с этими утверждениями.

Like most families of a large city my family lives in a block of flats. It is a 9-storey building, situated rather far from the center of the city. There is no undergroundstation near by, but it’s not a problem to get to downtown by bus or by tram.

We live in a rather quiet district. Nevertheless there is a number of shops, a hairdresser’s, a chemist’s and a cafe near my house.

My flat is situated on the 5th floor. There is an elevator in every porch, so we don’t have to walk up.

We have three rooms: a large living-room, my parents’ bedroom and my room. Certainly, there is a kitchen, a bath­room and a lavatory in our flat.

The flooring is parquet in the rooms and entrance hall, in the bathroom and lavatory it’s tiled. All the rooms are papered, with wallpaper of a different pattern and colour.

A feature of life in a modern flat today is a number of electrical appliances, that make our life easier and save our time. Our family has a washing machine, a vacuum cleaner, a toaster, a chip pan and squeezer. My mother’s dream is a dish-washer, but it is too expensive for the fa­mily budget.

My room is not the largest in the flat, but I really like it very much as I’ve furnished it by myself. I’ve got every­thing necessary here: a writing table to work at, a sofa to sleep on, a wardrobe for clothes, a wall unit with books and magazines I need, and a number of pictures and posters on the walls. I have not got a TV-set in my room, but I can watch it in the living-room. The thing I really lack is a personal computer. If I had a PC, I would be able to use it for doing my school projects and reports, listening to CDs and play­ing computer games. But my family can’t afford it at the moment. In fact, I’ve got a musical centre, so I have a pos­sibility to listen to my favourite cassettes and CDs.

Actually, I think it’s great to have a room of my own, so that I can put all the things wherever I want. I’m really happy to have the place, where I can work and rest, where I feel comfortable, relaxed and independent.

Отличительной особенностью современной жизни явля­ется большое число электроприборов, которые облегчают нашу жизнь и экономят время. У нас есть стиральная машина, пылесос, тостер, фритюрница и соковыжимал­ка. Мечта моей мамы — посудомоечная машина, но цена ее слишком велика для нашего семейного бюджета.

Моя комната не самая большая в квартире, мне она очень нравится, так как я ее обставил по своему вкусу. Здесь есть все необходимые для меня вещи: стол для рабо­ты, диван для отдыха, шкаф для одежды, стенка с книгами и журналами, которые мне нужны, и множество картинок и плакатов на стенах. У меня в комнате нет телевизора, но я могу смотреть программы в гостиной. Вещь, которой мне действительно не хватает, — персональный компьютер. Если бы у меня был компьютер, я бы смог печатать на нем доклады и рефераты, слушать компакт-диски, играть в компьютерные игры. Но моя семья не может себе в дан­ный момент позволить купить компьютер. Вообще-то, у меня есть музыкальный центр и, следовательно, возможность слушать свои любимые кассеты и компакт-диски.

Действительно, здорово иметь свою собственную комна­ту, где я могу раскладывать вещи так, как мне нравится. И я действительно счастлив, что у меня есть место, где Я могу работать и отдыхать, где я чувствую себя комфорт­но и свободно.

My family lives in a 9-storeyed building, which is situated near the city center. There is a nursery, school , several shops and a brasserie not far from the house.

We have an elevator in our communal entrance hall. We live on the seventh floor, that’s why we’re glad that we needn’t to walk up.

Our flat is very comfortable and cozy. It has three rooms: my parents’ bedroom, my room, a living room. It also includes a kitchen, a hallway and a bathroom. Our flat is provided with all modern conveniences: cold and hot running water, electricity, central heating, and telephone.

A living room is the biggest one in our flat. It has a long table with several chairs round in the middle. To the right of the table, there is a big wall unit with a wardrobe and different shelves. Opposite the table, an occasional table with a TV set on it stands from one side. There is a cozy sofa with two arm chairs from the other side. The floor is covered with a beautiful carpet with patterns. The pictures are hanging on the walls.

My parents’ bedroom is cozy and spacious. There is a bed with two dressing tables and small lamps on each of them.

My room is the smallest one. It’s very cozy and bright. It has a desk, an armchair, a wardrobe and a bed. My wooden shelves are overflowed with books, because I like to read. There is also a computer on my desk.

Our kitchen is big enough. In the middle it has a dining-table with chairs. Opposite it, there is a cupboard with cooking utensils. The kitchen has a refrigerator to the right of cupboard and a sink to the left. Our kitchen is well-equipped. It has a toaster, a food processor, a microwave and a coffee maker. We like to spend evenings in our cozy kitchen, to drink tea and talk.

I like my flat very much as it is one of some places, where I feel peaceful.

Самая большая комната в нашей квартире – это гостиная. В центре комнаты стоит стол с несколькими стульями. Справа от него стоит стенка с платяным шкафом и различными полочками. Напротив стола, с одной стороны, находится маленький столик с телевизором, с другой – удобный диван с двумя креслами. На полу лежит ковер с красивыми узорами. На стенах висят картины.

Спальня моих родителей уютная и просторная. Возле стены стоит кровать с прикроватными тумбочками, на которых стоят маленькие лампы.

Моя комната самая маленькая, но очень удобная и светлая. В ней есть стол, кресло, шкаф и кровать. Полки переполнены книгами, так как я люблю читать.

Наша кухня достаточно большая. Посередине стоит обеденный стол со стульями. Напротив него шкаф с посудой. Слева от шкафа раковина, справа – холодильник. Наша кухня хорошо оснащена, в ней есть тостер, комбайн, микроволновая печь и кофеварка. Мы любим проводить вечера в нашей уютной кухоньке, пить чай и разговаривать.

Мне очень нравится моя квартира, так как это одно из тех мест, где я чувствую себя умиротворённо.

Our house is a short walk from the trolleybus stop. We live in panel house on the fourth floor. Our flat has all modern conveniences: central heating, gas, electricity, running cold and hot water, telephone, a lift and chute.

Our flat consists of three rooms, kitchen, bathroom and a hall. First there is a small hall with a mirror and small table with a telephone on it. The three rooms of our flat are: living-room, bedroom, my study.

The floor is parquet in the rooms and linoleum in the kitchen. There is a thick carpet in the living-room on the floor. All the rooms are papered with wallpaper of a different pattern and colour.

The living-room is the largest and most comfortable room in the flat. It"s a large room with a balcony. In the middle of the room there is a table with some chairs around it. There is a sofa with two armchairs and low table with a TV-set on the left-hand side of the room. On the right-hand side there is a cupboard. There is a bookcase near it.

The bedroom is smaller and not so light. There are two beds, a wardrobe, a dressing-table.

The room I like best is my study. It is nice and cosy. It has a bed, a desk and an armchair. In the right-hand corner there is a bookcase full of books, magazins, newspapers.

The kitchen is handily arranged: there is a gas-stove, a frig, a deep sink, built-in cupboards and a table that folds against the wall when not in use. I like our flat very much.

Моя квартира

Наш дом расположен недалеко от троллейбусной остановки. Мы живем в панельном доме на четвертом этаже. В нашей квартире есть все современные удобства: центральное отопление, газ, электричество, горячая и холодная вода, телефон, лифт, мусоропровод.

Наша квартира состоит из трех комнат, кухни, ванной и холла. В квартире есть маленький холл с зеркалом, телефоном на маленьком столике. Наша квартира состоит из гостиной, спальни и моей комнаты.

В комнатах - пол паркетный, а в кухне - линолеум. В гостиной на полу лежит толстый ковер. Все комнаты оклеены обоями разных цветов и рисунков.

Гостиная -- самая просторная и удобная комната во всей квартире. Это - широкая комната с балконами. Посередине комнаты стоит стол с несколькими стульями вокруг него. В комнате есть диван, два кресла и с левой стороны телевизор на подставке. С правой стороны комнаты расположен шкаф, рядом - книжная полка.

Спальня меньше и не такая светлая. В ней две кровати, платяной шкаф и туалетный столик с зеркалом.

Комната, которая мне нравится больше всего, - моя учебная. Она милая и удобная. Там есть кровать, письменный стол и кресло. В правом углу - этажерка, полная книг, журналов, газет.

Кухня удобно оборудована: здесь есть газовая плита, холодильник, глубокая раковина, встроенные шкафы, стол, который можно складывать, когда им не пользуются. Мне очень нравится наша квартира.
